Website Design for Britannia at the Beach Beesands South Devon by AMPlifyME

Website Design for South Devon seafood restaurant Britannia at the Beach (Beesands) – responsive, CMS-ready and built for local search.

Britannia at the Beach – the much-loved seafood restaurant and takeaway on the shingle at Beesands, between Torcross and Hallsands – needed a website that could keep up with changing menus, opening hours and events while staying fast, easy to update and visible to visitors searching for food and drink in the South Hams.

The family-run business (part of the same family behind Britannia Shellfish Ltd) wanted a site that felt as welcoming and distinctive as ‘The Shack’ itself: somewhere that could showcase the location, the food and the story, without getting in the way of the things that matter most – opening hours, booking details and takeaway menus.

The brief

Britannia at the Beach required a website that could:

  • Reflect the brand – Rustic, coastal and family-run, with a clear link to their fishing heritage and Food & Drink Devon membership.
  • Stay up to date – Menus, opening hours and seasonal messaging change often; the client needed to edit content without touching code.
  • Work on every device – Reliable for locals and visitors on phones, tablets and desktops, including on the coast path and in the car park.
  • Support local search – Strong foundations for search terms like restaurant Beesands, seafood South Devon and café South Hams, with clear structure and meta data.
  • Integrate key tools – Instagram feed, phone/click-to-call, gift cards and book sales (e.g. Devon Cook Book, Coastal Café Guide) where needed.

The solution

We built a custom website that’s fast, reliable and straightforward for the team to update – no coding required. The result reflects the character of The Shack and works well for visitors searching for a restaurant in Beesands or seafood in the South Hams.

Design and user experience

  • Always-visible navigation – Logo, main menu and phone number sit in a fixed sidebar so booking and key links are never more than a tap away.
  • Strong sense of place – Full-width background photos of the building and beach set the scene; content sits in clear sections for opening hours, the Britannia story, gift cards, books and more.
  • Readable, on-brand look – Typography and layout chosen to suit a coastal café and to work on screens of all sizes.

Mobile-friendly

On phones and tablets the menu slides in when needed, with the logo and phone number still easy to find. Layout and text scale so the site stays usable from desktop down to the smallest screens – whether someone’s on the coast path or planning a visit from home.

Easy updates and local search

  • Simple content updates – The site is set up so staff can change opening hours, menus, gallery images and page copy in a browser-based editor (CloudCannon), without touching any code.
  • Built with search in mind – Page titles and descriptions are set up to help the site show up for searches like restaurant Beesands, seafood South Devon and café South Hams, with clear sections for opening hours, menus, gallery, history, contact, gift cards and books.

Integrations

  • Instagram – Latest posts from Britannia at the Beach feed through to the site automatically.
  • Book sales – The Devon Cook Book and Coastal Café Guide can be bought online with pricing and stock kept in sync with an external ecommerce solution (the best choice for the few ecommerce products that are needed on this site).
  • Cross-promotion – Clear links to Britannia Shellfish (South Devon fish delivered UK-wide) and Food & Drink Devon membership.

Outcome

Britannia at the Beach now has a fast, easy-to-update website that matches the character of the business and works well on phones, tablets and desktops. The team can change opening hours, menus and seasonal messages whenever they need to, and the site is set up to perform well in local search – so visitors looking for a restaurant in Beesands, seafood in South Devon or a café in the South Hams can find the information they need. Booking details, takeaway options and the Britannia story are all clearly presented for both new visitors and regulars.
